Unique or Unusual Travel Gifts for Her

It’s always fun to get someone a gift they may never have thought of. Something unique and a bit different will come in handy as well. These gifts for her fit the bill and will be sure to please. And, if you happen to be shopping for me, I would *love* either! (Hint, hint!)

Wacaco Nanopresso Portable Espresso Maker

Should this one go in the unique travel gifts section or the practical travel gifts section? It’s so hard to know as it may be a required item for coffee lovers now that you know about it! Take this compact espresso maker everywhere you go. No batteries or electricity are needed and it’s easy to use and clean.

Brew two perfect cups of espresso using any finely ground coffee. How could you ever have traveled before without it? It may just be the perfect gift for the person you know who loves traveling and has (almost) everything.

Infinity Scarf With 2 Zipper Pockets

Travel safety is important—I even dedicated an entire post to it! One of my tips is to stash some cash, carrying it with you in a concealed area like a money belt.

Many people use a money belt, but they can be bulky and uncomfortable, and depending on what you’re wearing, they can stand out. Here’s a great option to tuck away things safely while being able to keep it on your person.

This one comes in a number of different patterns, and it’s made in the United States. If you’re looking for a great gift for her, this one is practical and attractive.

If you want a most cost-conscious option, here is another infinity scarf that is around half the price. And for another option, I found this bra belt! Instead of wearing a money belt around your waist or hanging from your neck, you can clip it to your bra, ladies!

I got one and like it so much more than the other options. Last, if you think a traditional money best would be the best gift, gift this money belt with RFID blocking a try.

Practical Travel Gifts

Great travel gifts for her aren’t just fun and unique—sometimes they’re practical. These items are great to have on most trips and the person you buy them for will appreciate them!

And they will come in handy, whether you’re going on a weekend trip or a longer adventure. It doesn’t matter where you’re going or for how long you’re traveling. You’ll find some really helpful items on this list that the travel lover in your life will appreciate.

Clothing

A lot of what we pack for a trip is clothing. Of course, we grab the necessities, but something these will come in handy as well.

Women’s Cashmere-Feel Pashmina Shawl

This is a must-have for any trip. You never know when you’ll need an extra layer and it’s a compact thing you can easily fit in your bag.

Shawls like this not only give you an extra layer of warmth but they can be used to dress up an outfit in a pinch. They come in a bunch of colors.

Dr. Sholl’s Lavendar and Vitamin E Spa Socks

If you’re traveling and out and about all day, a little bit of comfort is what you need. These socks are soft, fluffy, and just like dipping your feet in soothing clouds.

When I know I’m going to be walking a lot, I tuck a pair of these in my bag for a little TLC. They don’t take up much space and my feet sure do appreciate them.

Toiletries and Such

Another essential for trips is the toiletries and things that we need to put ourselves together. Sometimes we can find interesting ways to reduce what we pack while being eco-friendly, and that’s where these gifts come in.

Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve – Organic Natural Shampoo and Conditioner Butter Bar

I love, love, love this shampoo bar! On my quest to carry-on bags only, I wanted to reduce my liquids and came across this amazing company. It’s a small business that hand-makes all of their products.

I have now tried a number of things and I love everything! So far, the butter bar is my favorite though they have a lot of others to try including this shampoo bar. They also have solid body lotion, bug repellant, and other great products. I can’t rave about this eco-friendly company enough.

TSA-Approved Toiletry Bag

I always used a quart-sized ziplock bag until a trip I took last year. A friend got a bag like this and I had no idea we could get a little more space for our toiletries when we travel!

I’m not sure if it’s just the shape of this that works better for small toiletries but it has made a world of difference for me! I can get everything in this bag so much more easily! No more fearing the bag will open or split as this is so much more secure.

If you’re looking for thoughtful gifts for her, this one is a winner.

Silicone Refillable Travel Bottles

These small travel bottles work great for packing any of your liquids. What I especially like is that there are a variety of shapes and sizes so you can choose what works best for what you’re packing.

Portable Mini Refillable Perfume Spray Bottle

Maybe you want to pack your favorite perfume but don’t want to pack the entire bottle. Or, maybe you can’t due to size requirements (if it’s over 3.4 ounces), there is an alternative.

This small perfume spray bottle is a great idea to bring your perfume without having to check your bag or worry that it will leak all over the place.

You may love the scent, but that would be a bit much! And who wants to do laundry right when you arrive on your vacation?

Gillette Venus Women’s Razor

I know adding a razor to this list may seem a little silly, but look how tiny this thing is! It will save room so you can pack a few more magnets or whatever souvenirs you collect on your travels. And, you won’t have to wear pants for the last few days of your trip if you don’t want to.

KIPOZI Mini Straightener

I tend to travel with a minimalist attitude and have trimmed a lot from my bag. But one thing I can’t handle is frizzy hair! This little straightener is a powerhouse to keep my locks reasonably tame.

I usually only do the hair right around my face and haven’t tried my full head with it (who has time for that when traveling?) But, I’m pretty sure it would hold up to the task.

Yiiho Travel Hairdryer

I have a teeny tiny hairdryer from Brookstone that I got as a gift a million years ago, and it appears they no longer sell it. So, here is another tiny option that looks pretty good.

Most hotels and even Airbnbs have hairdryers, but I have learned the hard way that not all do. I never assume anymore as I have curls that require some taming and can’t do without a hairdryer. If you know someone like that as well, this may be a great gift to try.

Packing

What do you use for your trips? Your ratty old suitcase that you’ve had for ten years? (I was guilty of this!) Or maybe you have bags that are bigger than you need because you’re learning to pack less. (Guilty again.)

Some of the new bags are quite slick and have locking features, laptop sleeves, and extra pockets to make them really useful. Here are some great bags and some other useful packing tools to help you fit everything you need while saving space for souvenirs.

Eagle Creek Pack-It Original Compression Cube Set

These are the compression cubes I have been using for the last couple of years and I love them! They pack my clothes down super small and I can get a surprising amount in these two little cubes.

They also have cube sets with 3 cubes or packing cube sets with different sizes to choose from. I wrote a post about how I pack for two weeks in just a carry-on bag, and these are a big reason why I can do it.

Gonex Compression Packing Cubes

I have been using my Eagle Creek Compression Packing Cubes for a couple of years now. However, I have decided to cheat (gasp!) with these after I saw another travel blogger rave about them.

BAGSMART Electronic Organizer

No matter how minimally I try to travel, I still end up packing several power cords! I haven’t bought this bag yet, but I plan to once I can travel again. The same travel blogger that raved about the Gonex packing cubes also raved about this.

It’s a great place to store cords, adapters, and those little bits you just toss in your bag and then can never find.

Rolo Adventures Portable Roll-Up Travel Bag

If you don’t go with compression bags or if you have some extra room for additional clothing, this is a great idea highly recommended by the travel blogger I’ve been mentioning. She’s been traveling for more than ten years, so she has lots of experience!

I have followed her guidance successfully in the past so I feel comfortable suggesting this. I do plan to try it when I can travel again.

It’s a great and affordable way to pack and organize your clothing for a trip. Especially one where you’re hopping around to different areas.

Luggage and Bags

Everyone who wants to travel needs good bags, so luggage can make a perfect gift for someone who wants to travel more. There are so many different kinds of bags depending on personal preferences and the type of trip. Here are some that I recommend.

Eagle Creek Expanse International Carry-On Bag

You may have read about my obsession with my suitcase from Eagle Creek. It’s an international-sized bag that fits the dimensions for most airlines so it’s compact.

It has compression straps to help you use every last millimeter of space as well. But that’s not the magic of this bag. What makes this bag so amazing is that it converts to a backpack. Yes, you read that right.

This bag has straps that tuck away when you don’t need them. So you can wheel it like a suitcase or carry it on your back like a backpack. Pretty amazing, eh?

If that’s just a little too … little of a bag, here’s a 22″ version of the convertible bag. They have lots of other options as well including:

  • Eagle Creek Expanse Wheeled Duffel—This 30-inch wheeled duffel packs a monstrous 100L.
  • Eagle Creek Tarmac 29 Inch Luggage—If you just prefer a bigger bag and think small bags are for sissies, this is a great one to consider.
  • Eagle Creek Backpack—My latest find (read: obsession) is my Eagle Creek backpack for women. I got the 40L, which fits on an airplane in the overhead bin (yay!) They have a 65L version as well. What I love about this is it’s “book style” and opens like a suitcase. No more digging down to the bottom of your backpack, just unzip and grab what you need. Game changer, right here.

Travelon Anti-Theft Cross-Body Bucket Bag

Travelon bags are worth the money and they make a great gift. I have had mine for several years and I love it. Mine is a little different than this one but they make a number of different styles. If this one doesn’t suit your fancy, look around.

YIHONG Reusable Grocery Bags with Pouch

A lot of areas in the world don’t have bags in the grocery store. You either have to purchase them, or they may not even have them. These bags are great for this purpose, for going to the beach, or wherever you want to use them.

They are thin and take little room in your bag. Walk from the grocery store a time or two juggling a bunch of items in your arms, and you’ll thank me for it.

Electronics

How would we ever travel without our electronics? Whether it’s your laptop, phone, tablet, earbuds, or whatever you need when you’re on the go, electronics are important. Make sure you protect what you have and have plenty of juice on your trip.

Silicon Power 1TB Rugged Portable External Hard Drive

If you’re someone who likes traveling with your laptop, it’s a good idea to bring a portable external hard drive to back up your system. Especially if you’ll be working, taking lots of pictures, or doing anything on your laptop you may want to save.

It only takes once to lose all of your data on your hard drive before you bring one with you everywhere you go.

Anker PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger

I learned my lesson in Thailand when my phone died and I had no way of charging it. I take pictures on my trip with it, so it was disastrous! While I guess I was able to spend more time imprinting the images of all that I saw on my brain, I wasn’t able to share that with my readers!

I won’t make that mistake again and now I always carry a portable charger with me. This way, I never have to worry about my phone being charged.

Ceptics 12Pcs International Travel Worldwide Grounded Universal Plug Adapter Set

When you travel to many parts of the world, outlets are different and you need adapters to use your electronics. No problem at all with this adapter set. Simply bring the one you need for where you are going (and if you are going to multiple countries, be sure to check each).

Pro tip: make sure you check the voltage for the country and if your electronic will adjust.

Many things like phones and laptops can adjust according to the voltage, but not all do. Be sure to check if you need a converter as well to avoid frying your electronics.

Here is another style of world travel adapter kit by Ceptics. It has a power center including two plugs, two USB ports, and some adapters.

Other Useful Travel Items

There are a lot of other helpful travel gifts for her that don’t fit in an easy grouping like those above. Here are some great ones to consider for yourself a gift.

Katadyn BeFree 1.0L Water Filter

I have gushed about this filtered water bottle before and I’ll continue to do so. It’s one of the best things I have found for my travels to date, and that’s saying something.

The bottle is soft and reduces to the size of the filter. It holds a liter and since it’s filtered, you can fill it up along the way. I love this practical water bottle.

RFID Blocking Leather Passport Holder Cover

Did you know that someone can steal information from your passport just by walking near you? I knew that’s possible with credit cards, but it turns out, your passport may be at risk as well.

Get protection with this RFID-blocking passport holder. It’s sharp and practical and a great travel gift for her as well.

Inflatable Neck Travel Pillow

Have you ever fallen asleep on a plane and woken up with a major kink in your neck? I don’t usually sleep on flights, no matter how long they are, though sometimes I doze.

There’s nothing worse than starting a vacation with a huge knot in your neck. Ouch! Instead, try this travel pillow. You’re welcome.

LifeStraw Personal Water

You can’t safely drink water in a lot of parts of the world. The bottle above is a great find, but if you may need more water, this is a great option.

I have seen videos of people drinking water from pretty sludgy lakes with these things. I don’t recommend that, but I do recommend the LifeStraw.

Sleeping Bag Liner and Camping Sheet

The cleanliness standards in the world aren’t always what we’d like them to be. When I travel to certain areas, I bring this sleeping bag liner.

It’s great for camping, of course, as well as some potentially sketchy beds. If you’re not staying in four or five-star hotels, you might want to consider one of these.

Microfiber Travel & Sports Towel Set

This is another practical thing to bring along on trips. For the same reason as the sleeping bag liner, in part. But sometimes you take a spontaneous trip to a waterfall and could use a towel.

These pack up small and come in handy when you need one.

Tide Travel Sink Packets

Not the sexiest of gifts, to be sure, but these sink packets are amazing! If you’re trying to limit your load and stay clean and fresh, you can bring some items you can wash in the sink. Then, use your clothesline to let them dry off.

It’s so easy and great time savings from running to a laundromat. You can’t easily do jeans or anything heavy like that, but it works great for tops, undies, and socks.

Nasdom Travel Clothesline

Another travel blogger mentioned this in one of his posts and I thought “why have I never thought of this?” Since I try to carry less with me, I often do laundry on my trips.

Sometimes I’m lucky enough to get an apartment with a washer in the apartment or the building. Not all places have dryers, I have learned, so I ended up hanging clothes all over my apartment.

With these, I won’t have to! It packs up small and is lightweight. I can’t wait to use them!
